Admission requirements and assessment of previously acquired knowledge/competences

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to the degree programme in “FoodTechnology” requires possession of a five-year secondary school diploma orequivalent; the places available on this restricted access degree programmedepend on the resources available. The number of students eligible forenrolment and the related selection procedures will be published each year inthe call for applications. The knowledge and skills required for admission areconfirmed by obtaining the minimum score, indicated in the call forapplications, in the entrance exam set for this restricted access degreeprogramme.

All students will be tested to verify theknowledge required for admission, at the same time as the above entrance exam.The test of the knowledge required for admission to the degree programme ispassed if the score of the student is equal to or greater than the minimumindicated in the call for applications.

ADDITIONAL LEARNING REQUIREMENTS ANDRELATED VERIFICATION

Failure to pass the test of knowledge willresult in the assignment of additional learning requirements, such as attendinga remedial mathematics course or any other activities that may be arranged.These additional learning requirements must be satisfied during the first yearof the degree programme and, in all cases, by the deadlines established by theUniversity.

Failure to satisfy the requirement by theend of the academic year of matriculation will result in repetition of theenrolment for that year. Students who already have a degree or Universitydiploma, and those who enrol for the restricted access degree programmefollowing transfer from another University of Bologna degree programme or fromanother University, must nevertheless sit the entrance exam in accordance withthe rules indicated above.

Programme profile

This degree programme seeks to preparegraduates for work as food product and process technicians in food-processingcompanies (production, distribution, packaging, ingredients), public or privatefood quality laboratories, or the technical and operational sectors of thepublic administration.

The objectives of the degree programme areto provide the knowledge needed to assess the chemical, physical, nutritionaland sensorial quality of food products, and operate and manage productionprocesses in accordance with modern standards for quality and safety, businesseconomics and marketing; as well as provide the skills required to makerational decisions about the transformation phases and processes that are mostsuitable for modern food processing and/or the supply of foodstuffs.

The degree programme has stronginter-disciplinary connotations, in order to provide the skills needed to workin the highly dynamic, multi-disciplinary food processing sector, with a viewto training professionals and technicians capable of working successfully inextremely innovative environments that are subject to great changes.
